title: |
Transport of saline fluids from subducting slab to the mantle wedge
|
abstract: |
Subduction-zone magmatism is triggered by the addition of H2O-rich slab-derived flux. The slab-derived components have compositional features consistent with a saline fluid and a silica-rich melt, which can be formed through a separation of a Cl-bearing slab-derived supercritical fluid. This hypothesis is consistent with our recent findings of aqueous fluids with salinity similar to seawater in the subduction channel and the mantle wedge and elemental partition behaviors to saline fluids under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions.
