An Introduction to EISCAT_3D
|
要旨: |
This seminar will focus on describing the preparations for the new
EISCAT_3D radar facilities. EISCAT_3D will be a phased-array radar
system using the incoherent scatter technique to study the atmosphere
in the Fenno-Scandinavian Arctic and to investigate how the Earth's
atmosphere is coupled to space. The baseline design suggests a core
site that will be located close to the intersection of the Swedish,
Norwegian and Finnish borders and four receiving sites located within
approximately 50 to 250 km from the core. The project is currently in
its preparatory phase and can smoothly transit into implementation in
2014, provided that sufficient funds are allocated. The current EISCAT
Association is funded by China, Finland, Japan, Norway, Sweden, and
the United Kingdom; all members support the plans for the new systems
and the national user communities prepare for the submission of
funding proposals. The presentation shows typical incoherent scatter
observations as well as other radar observations that can be done
with the system, and then describes the status of the EISCAT_3D
project.
