| abstract: | Zircon (ZrSiO4) is an igneous mineral that occurs abundantly from granitic rocks of continental crusts. This mineral survives through erosion to be preserved preferentially in sedimentary rocks, such as sandstone and conglomerate, owing to its mechanical hardness. This talk introduces three latest topics on dating U-PB age of zircon separated from ancient sandstones; i.e., 1) the development of a new machine customized for Hadean zircon separation and the oldest (4.37 Ga) material of the Earth, 2) comparative analysis of zircon age spectra in Precambrian-Phanerozoic sandstones with respect to the latest continental growth curve, and 3) the origin of Japan. |
